Privacy Policy

Across Generations in Japan (AGI) is an independent travel blog based in Japan. This page explains how personal information is used and how affiliate links support the blog. Questions? Get in touch.

Affiliate links

Some links on AGI are affiliate links. If you follow one and make a qualifying booking or purchase, I may earn a commission. This includes links through Travelpayouts and its travel partners.

These commissions help support the blog. I aim to explain a hotel’s drawbacks as clearly as its advantages. Sponsored content and complimentary services will be identified in the relevant article.

Affiliate partners may use cookies and referral identifiers to connect your visit with a booking. They may process click, device, and transaction information, and AGI may receive reports on clicks, bookings, and commissions. Tracking periods vary by partner.

Bookings are handled by the provider, whose payment, cancellation, and privacy terms apply. Please check the privacy notices of Travelpayouts and the booking service you use.

When you contact me

The WPForms contact form collects your email address, subject, message, and name if you choose to provide it. I use these details to reply, investigate corrections, and keep track of our conversation. Sending a message does not subscribe you to marketing emails.

Messages may be handled by the site’s hosting and email providers. Storage and backups depend on the form settings. Please avoid sending passport details, payment information, or sensitive medical information.

Site visits and cookies

The hosting service and security tools may process your IP address, browser details, pages requested, and access times to keep the website working and prevent misuse.

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) helps show how people find and use AGI. When enabled, it may process page views, interactions, referral sources, device information, approximate location, and online identifiers, including cookies. I do not intentionally send contact-form names, email addresses, or messages to GA4. See Google’s Privacy Policy.

Google Search Console provides reports on AGI’s appearance in Google Search, such as search terms, clicks, and impressions. This is separate from tracking visits on the website.

Cookies are small files stored in your browser. They may support site features, analytics, or affiliate tracking. You can block or delete them in your browser, although some features may be affected. Google also offers an Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Reading this policy does not mean you consent to optional tracking.

Pinterest and other websites

AGI shares travel content on Pinterest. When you visit Pinterest, its Privacy Policy applies. If embedded Pins or other external content are loaded here, those services may receive device and browsing information and use cookies. Other websites linked from AGI have their own privacy practices.

How information is handled

Information is used to answer messages, operate and protect the website, understand readership, and manage affiliate relationships. Hosting, email, security, analytics, and affiliate providers may process it for these purposes, or it may be disclosed where required by law. Contact messages are not used as a mailing list for sale.

Where a legal basis is required, it may be consent, responding to your request, legitimate interests in running the site subject to your rights, or a legal obligation.

AGI is operated in Japan, and providers may process data in other countries, including the United States. Privacy protections can differ. Correspondence is kept as long as reasonably needed for replies, follow-up, disputes, or legal obligations. Logs, analytics, affiliate records, and backups have separate retention periods based on their purpose and provider settings.

Your choices and questions

Depending on the law that applies, you may be able to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your information, restrict or object to its use, withdraw consent, or complain to a privacy authority. Please contact me to make a request. I may need to verify your identity, and some records may need to be kept for legal reasons. For data held independently by Google, Pinterest, or a booking provider, contact that provider.

AGI is written for adults planning family travel and does not knowingly request personal information from children. Please contact me if you believe a child has provided personal information.

This policy will be updated as the site’s practices change.
