At breakfast, one traveler still wants a full sightseeing day; another would rather avoid wet pavements and another train change. For a shared Tokyo trip in March–June 2027, the useful compromise may be one worthwhile indoor visit with an easy way back. Start from your hotel, not a citywide list of rainy-day attractions.
Choose one indoor anchor, a realistic meal option and a return route everyone understands. Leave the second activity optional until you see how the day feels.
Pick the kind of outing your group wants
| Possible anchor | May suit your group when… | Check before leaving |
|---|---|---|
| Sumida Aquarium, Oshiage | An aquarium is the shared interest and the route from your hotel works | Ticket date or time, included attractions, current hours |
| Tokyo National Museum, Ueno | People want a museum visit rather than a shopping afternoon | Opening calendar, exhibition admission and outdoor approach |
| First Avenue Tokyo Station | Shops and food are enough for a looser outing | Which Yaesu-side route and which shops are open |
These are alternatives, not a three-stop itinerary. Sumida Aquarium’s official FAQ says its exhibits are indoors. The Tokyo National Museum FAQ lists regular Monday closures with holiday exceptions. First Avenue’s official guide places it outside Tokyo Station’s ticket gates and lists different shop hours. Recheck the calendar for your actual visit.
The short conversations are editorial planning examples, not visitor testimonials.
SofiaWhich of these is the best rainy-day choice?

The one your group wants to visit and can reach comfortably from its own hotel. A famous indoor venue can still mean an awkward journey.
Make the return easy before you commit
Look at transfers, exits and outdoor stretches in both directions. Use AGI’s station-exit guide if the last few hundred metres are the uncertain part.
Confirm the opening calendar and the exact ticket’s date, entry window and cancellation terms. Leave room for the journey instead of choosing a tight arrival slot.
Choose a specific meeting place and time if people browse at different speeds. Make sure each person knows how to return to the hotel.

Should we buy an aquarium ticket now and work out the route later?

Check the route and the exact option first. The aquarium warns that preferred admission times can sell out, but that is a reason to check availability—not to buy a slot your group cannot comfortably reach.
Sumida Aquarium’s official ticket page explains advance and same-day purchasing, including possible waits and sold-out admission times. If Oshiage fits your plan, compare the available Klook options below. Check whether an option includes only the aquarium or additional attractions; a tower-view component is a separate weather decision. This is an affiliate link; AGI may earn a commission on a qualifying purchase.
A full day indoors is not a promise of an easy day. Standing, queues and repeated changes of building can still be tiring. In disruptive weather, check transport and venue notices before setting out; an admission ticket does not establish that the journey is suitable.
Let the outing have a natural stopping point
Agree what would make the outing feel worthwhile: one gallery, the aquarium visit or a meal and a little browsing. A person who wants to return earlier should not have to negotiate the whole day again. If the group separates, confirm hotel access and the meeting plan rather than assuming everyone will keep the same pace.

So we can keep the afternoon open without writing the day off?

Yes. One visit everyone can enjoy, with a clear way back, may be a better shared day than three rushed stops.
- One indoor anchor fits the group’s interests and hotel location.
- Opening and ticket conditions are checked for the actual date.
- Outdoor stretches and the return route are understood.
- A meal option and a specific regrouping point are agreed.
For the last part of the journey, see AGI’s Tokyo station-exit guide. If a skyline visit is still on the shortlist, use the separate observation-deck weather and ticket guide.
